Family-owned American bourbon distillery Heaven Hill has added a new age statement to its Heritage Collection. Presented as the Spring 2026 release, the Heaven Hill 22 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon is positioned as a limited expression highlighting the distillery’s long-term barrel aging philosophy.

Distilled in 2003, this bourbon was produced from a mash bill of 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% malted barley. It then matured for more than two decades in Kentucky warehouses across 270 barrels before being prepared for bottling in December 2025.

Cask Strength and Non-Chill Filtration

This Heritage Collection release is bottled at cask strength and without chill filtration. This approach preserves the bourbon’s natural oils and structure, resulting in a fuller and more layered profile.

Extended aging gives the whiskey a deep amber hue, while the aromatic profile reveals caramel, mature oak, and warm baking spices. On the palate, brown sugar, dried fruit, and leather are complemented by deeper tones of dark cocoa, aged tobacco leaf, and polished oak. This layered structure reflects the concentrated character shaped by more than two decades in barrel, with a long, warming finish reinforcing its depth.

The Character of Extended Aging

A 22-year maturation also places this bourbon within the range where the “Angel’s Share” becomes especially pronounced. Kentucky’s hot summers and cool winters cause a significant portion of the liquid to evaporate over time, leaving behind a more concentrated and structured whiskey. This natural reduction contributes to the deeper oak influence, darker sweetness, and mature spice layers often found in long-aged bourbons.

The high age statement brings more pronounced oak structure and deeper aromatic complexity, balanced by a refined sweetness. The result is a mature, slightly more masculine profile shaped by prolonged barrel interaction.

Its Place Within the Heritage Collection

Heaven Hill’s Heritage Collection is known as an annual series featuring limited bourbons selected from the distillery’s aging warehouses. The new 22-year expression stands out as one of the releases that most clearly emphasizes extended maturation within the lineup.

High-age bourbons such as this are relatively rare, particularly given the intense oak influence that develops in Kentucky’s climate. As a result, expressions matured for more than two decades are often regarded as collectible releases within the category.

VOGGIA Perspective

Very high age-statement bourbons remain limited by nature. Extended maturation in Kentucky warehouses requires careful barrel selection, as oak influence intensifies significantly over time. For this reason, bourbons aged beyond 20 years are typically drawn from a distillery’s most carefully managed stock.

The Heaven Hill 22 Year Old Heritage Collection reflects this approach. With its extended aging, cask strength bottling, and non-chill filtration, the release presents a compelling expression for collectors and enthusiasts drawn to mature, oak-forward bourbon profiles.
