The Macallan, one of Speyside’s most iconic distilleries, has been going through a particularly busy period when it comes to special releases. Earlier this month the brand introduced the James Bond-themed “Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary” whisky. Now it has unveiled the newest entry in its Distil Your World series, this time inspired by Paris, a city widely regarded as one of the world’s great gastronomic capitals.
Distil Your World Paris marks the fifth release in Macallan’s city-inspired collection. Previous editions paid tribute to New York, London, Mexico City, and Hong Kong. With this new chapter, the series attempts to translate the gastronomic culture and lifestyle aesthetics of Paris into the language of whisky.
A Macallan Inspired by Paris
The series is developed in collaboration with the Roca brothers, the owners of the renowned Spanish restaurant El Celler de Can Roca. Twice named the World’s Best Restaurant, the culinary philosophy of the Roca family brings a gastronomic perspective to Macallan’s whisky creation process.

For Macallan’s lead whisky maker Kirsteen Campbell, the visit to Paris was shaped particularly by the French gastronomic concept of “l’art de la table,” often translated as the art of the table. Campbell notes that her experiences in the city played a significant role in shaping the character of this whisky.
According to Campbell, the release aims to preserve the signature Macallan profile while also exploring new ideas and aromatic layers. The goal was to create a whisky that feels familiar yet carries a subtle element of surprise.
An Unusual Cask Combination for Macallan
When Macallan is mentioned, the first thing that usually comes to mind is the brand’s long-standing tradition of sherry cask maturation. European and American oak sherry-seasoned casks form the backbone of the distillery’s signature aromatic profile.
However, Distil Your World Paris expands beyond that classic approach. In addition to traditional sherry casks, the whisky was matured in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and Cognac casks. While not entirely unprecedented, the use of these casks remains relatively uncommon for Macallan.
According to the official tasting notes, the nose reveals aromas of almond croissant, rose, nectarine, and sandalwood. On the palate, flavors of buttered pastry, brioche, peach melba, mille-feuille, and toasted oak come forward. The whisky is bottled at 47.2% ABV with natural color.
Paris-Inspired Design and Documentary
The special packaging for this release was designed by Parisian artist Cassandre Montoriol. The visual identity of the bottle reflects elements of Parisian culture through its graphic details.
Macallan also produced a documentary film as part of the project. The film follows Kirsteen Campbell and renowned chef Joan Roca during their journey through Paris as they explore the city’s culinary scene and gather inspiration.
According to Roca, Paris stands as one of the strongest symbols of gastronomy worldwide. The city is home to approximately 44,000 restaurants and hosts a remarkable concentration of three-Michelin-star establishments, reinforcing its reputation as one of the world’s centers of culinary excellence.
Arriving in April
Macallan Distil Your World Paris will be available starting in April at select specialty retailers in the United States. The recommended retail price for the bottle has been announced at $4,750.
Collectors seeking early access will also have the opportunity to purchase the bottle through the Macallan Society membership program.

The VOGGIA Perspective
The premium whisky world has been undergoing a visible transformation in recent years. Distilleries are no longer competing solely through cask types, age statements, or production techniques. Storytelling, cultural references, and interdisciplinary collaborations have become equally important elements of brand identity.
The Macallan Distil Your World series embodies this approach. By attempting to translate the gastronomic culture, aesthetic sensibilities, and rhythm of a city into whisky flavors, the project suggests that whisky is increasingly positioned not only as a drink but also as a cultural narrative.
The inclusion of Cognac casks in this Paris-inspired release is part of that narrative. For a distillery closely associated with sherry cask maturation, experimenting with alternative cask types signals a willingness to explore new aromatic territory while preserving the core character of the brand.
From the VOGGIA perspective, Distil Your World Paris can be interpreted as more than a whisky launch. It represents a collectible object where gastronomy, design, and urban culture intersect. Limited releases like this increasingly occupy a space beyond the bar shelf, appearing instead in collector displays, gastronomic storytelling, and cultural collaborations.
